In October 2009, the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main founded the affiliate company MainSWerk Service GmbH. The objective of the company is to carry out cleaning services, especially for institutions of the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main.
The main shareholder is the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main, minority shareholder and service provider is Gies Dienstleistungen GmbH in Stadtallendorf.
Due to hygiene regulations, the cleaning quality is especially important in public areas of the catering services of the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main. This is also a topic of high relevance for the residential halls. Until now, the cleaning of the areas was carried out by external companies.
In order to ensure a consistently high quality of the cleaning services, the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main established a joint limited company with a cleaning service provider. The main shareholder is the Studierendenwerk with 51% of the voting share. This ensures that the employees work for standard wages, and the cleaning staff employed by the new company has a closer relationship with the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main.
The motivation of the employees to responsibly do their work is therefore to be increased. Savings potential is generated by the more efficient use of employees, the elimination of additional company margin for consumed services and the low-cost purchase of consumables. The foundation of the company was possible because of the Studierendenwerk Act of 2006, § 3 Tasks, Section 4, which allows the Studierendenwerke to be involved with other companies or to set up businesses itself.
