The Upgrading Training Assistance Act (Aufstiegsfortbildungsförderungsgesetz, AFBG for short) is a legally regulated monetary benefit that provides financial support to people in their qualification. In principle, anyone who fulfils the legal requirements is entitled to support.

Typical advanced training courses include courses for master craftsmen and business administrators or further training as a technician or educator. There are more than 700 other equivalent training courses that are eligible for AFBG funding.

Participants receive a contribution to the course and examination fees as well as the cost of the masterpiece, independent of income and assets. In the case of full-time measures, an additional contribution to living expenses can be paid.
